FEMALE Youth Support Worker

This position is a temporary, contracted position and will last as long as care is needed for a particular youth.

 

AYS is a home-like environment where staff collaborate with professionals in the community to create a strength based plan that will meet the individual needs of the youth. These plans will enable the youth to develop the skills needed to be successful in the community. These include creating opportunities for positive social interactions and improving relationships with natural support systems, encouraging educational and/or vocational training, teaching life skills, increasing coping strategies needed for emotional/behavioural regulation, address any health related needs, and foster identity, cultural, and religious exploration.

The residence is a 24 hour staffed resource where one youth resides with one residential support worker. The Resource Coordinator provides youth with one on one individualized support and case manages the youth’s individualized service plan (ISP). In case of a crisis situation or when extra support is needed, youth and staff will have access to a crisis worker 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be able to work shifts of 7am-5pm, 3pm-11pm, or 11pm-7am and work in a shift rotation of 4 days on and 4 days off.
  • Must have a Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in a related field and/or 2 years relevant training and experience
  • Must have a Valid B.C. Driver’s License / must have their own reliable vehicle
  • Driving record check (abstract)
  • Vehicle business insurance including $2 million liability
  • Current First Aid certificate
  • TB screen
  • Mandatory clear criminal record check
  • Ability to complete documentation
  • Fluent in speaking and writing English
  • A good understanding of the dynamics of working with at risk youth with mental health needs
  • Must be energetic, enthusiastic and be self motivated

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent ability to engage and motivate challenging youth
  • Excellent conflict resolution and mediation skills
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing
  • Ability to establish a positive rapport with hard to reach youth

Duties will include:

  • Maintaining forms and reports for each youth.
  • Encourage acceptable social standards and set and maintain appropriate limits.
  • Provide youth with a safe environment where communication is encouraged.
  • Night checks and maintaining nighttime routine.
  • Cleaning and maintaining a safe home environment
  • Completing paperwork and executing safety plans
