PLEA Community Services is currently seeking a Regular Part-Time Curfew Monitor for our Ridge Meadows Youth Services team. The proposed start date for this position is August 25, 2020. This position requires union membership.
The curfew monitoring service is provided to youth who have either been released from custody on bail conditions, or have been sentenced to a court order. The Curfew Monitor provides services to youth who are referred by their probation officers, conducts confirmation of curfew compliance through telephone calls and in-person visits, provides required reports and provides bail transport if necessary.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors compliance with the terms and conditions of Youth Court Orders.
- Performs frequent and random curfew checks by telephone and in-person as assigned. Reports all known instances of non-compliance to the supervising probation officer.
- Provides transportation for youth in bail placements as required for intake, discharge and appointment attendance. Assists in meeting bail case management objectives as developed in consultation with the supervising probation officer.
- Responds to critical incidents, implements crisis intervention strategies that address the specific health and safety issues of those involved, and informs the manager when such situation s arise. Provides on-call and duty coverage for the program.
- Develops positive connections to the community, including maintaining effective working relationships with all formal and informal service providers.
- Ensures that all records, reports, files and documentation pertaining to service delivery are accurate, complete and in compliance with PLEA's policies and procedures.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures established by PLEA, and meets the performance expectations of the position in a manner that demonstrates compassion and respect for all persons served. Exercises the responsibilities of the position in a manner consistent with the philosophical approach and mandate of the program.

- Excellent interpersonal, counselling and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to prepare accurate reports.
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with a range of different individuals and groups in the community, and to be sensitive and understanding of their social realities including issues of race, culture, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, poverty and lifestyle.
- Excellent organizational, time and general management skills.
- Ability to work effectively on a team with other program staff, community professionals and collaterals. Demonstrated ability to work independently and be accountable for results.
- Knowledge of theory, principles and best practices with respect to providing services to youth with who are high risk, and have complex care needs, and their families/caregivers.
- Good understanding of relevant Criminal Justice Legislation and policies, the role of Youth Court, Child Welfare Legislation and policies including the Child, Family and Community Service Act; and applicable government legislation, regulations and accreditation standards.
- Grade 12 graduation with some post-secondary courses completed in the health or social services field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience in providing services to youth who are high risk and their families/caregivers, including work with youth involved in the youth justice system.
- Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector, with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs and related provincial and community support services is preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and familiarity with database programs.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Clearance.
- Must possess a valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate or be willing to obtain one prior to hire.
- A valid B.C. Driver's License (Class 5 or Class 7), and suitable driver's abstract.
- Travel in the Lower Mainland is required.
- The usual hours of work in this position are Tuesday to Saturday from 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM, based on 20 working hours per week.
