Term and hours:              4 days a week. 1 year contract with possibility of renewal


Compensation:                $50,000 per year (based on a salary of $62,500 per year, prorated to 4 days a week), plus group health insurance and 4 weeks paid vacation


Position summary


The Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability (CNCA) brings together 38 organisations from across Canada that advocate for Canadian policy and law reform to ensure Canadian corporations respect human rights and the environment throughout their global operations and supply chains. The network currently has a special focus on mining, oil and gas companies and companies making clothes for the Canadian market.


The CNCA is seeking a bilingual self-starter, who is detail-oriented and efficient, to take on the position of Communications, Fundraising and Operations Coordinator (CCFO). The CNCA is administered by a very small staff, an active Steering Committee and a diverse member base. CNCA staff work collaboratively as part of a two staff team.

The CCFO will have responsibility (both primary and shared) for:

  • communications: developing and implementing a broad communications and engagement strategy directed at a number of audiences, including the general public, CNCA members and Canadian decision-makers;
  • fundraising: developing and implementing a fundraising plan, including an annual fundraising drive with member organisations, as well as seeking new funds from external foundations, and
  • operations: maintaining network calendars, meeting and event logistics, producing summary minutes from meetings, and supporting the National Coordinator in project management (adherence to deadlines, reporting, financial and file management) and in member outreach.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience working with limited supervision and demonstrated understanding of consensus-based decision-making in a diverse coalition environment.

Primary responsibilities


Communications (55%):

  • Support the CNCA in the development and implementation of an overall communications strategy that furthers CNCA’s policy objectives
  • Draft clear, concise and compelling materials for various audiences, including news releases and media kits, web content, educational and campaign materials, case studies and periodic updates to our members
  • Proofread, edit and accurately transform texts written by policy experts into clear language for external communications
  • Increase CNCA’s social media presence, including maintaining up-to-date outward facing communications and producing memes and infographics
  • Increase CNCA’s traditional media presence, including ongoing media relations
  • Coordinate the CNCA’s media monitoring on priority issues
  • Provide communications support internally to the network and its working groups, as necessary


Shared responsibilities


Fundraising (25%):

  • Identify potential new sources of core and project funding (raise 100,000$ for 2022)
  • Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to meet the needs of the network, in collaboration with network members
  • Lead CNCA’s annual member fundraising drive
  • Prepare funding proposals to external funders
  • Develop financial and narrative reports, and ensure adherence to reporting deadlines


Operations, Outreach and Research (20%), may include:

  • Support in project management, including delivery of project activities and establishing file-management systems
  • Assist with overall financial management of the network (implementation of financial policies and procedures, budget development and monitoring, etc.)
  • Logistics for member meetings and public events, including producing summary notes
  • Member outreach: update databases, contact sheets and group calendars; support speaking tours; ensure timely updates and information-sharing
  • Carry out research and analysis on legislation, law and policy reform proposals, and other emerging issues as input for briefs and case studies
  • Coordinate the preparation of educational and campaign material


Qualifications and assets



  • Degree or diploma in journalism, communications, political science, law, international affairs or a similar field
  • Demonstrated ability to drive communications strategies using web-based and social media platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to produce engaging web-specific and social media specific written and visual content
  • Demonstrated track-record (or demonstrated transferable skills) in fundraising, with private foundations, on behalf of non-profit advocacy organisations
  • Bilingual (English / French) imperative
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in communications and/or fundraising, and familiarity with the Canadian not for profit sector
  • Capacity to work in a self-directed manner, collaborate in a team, and to provide leadership, as required
  • Strong interpersonal skills, tact, judgement and discretion, including confidence to deal with a wide range of people with varying levels of knowledge of the issues
  • Commitment to human rights, social and environmental justice




  • Experience with grassroots campaigning, public education and/or parliamentary engagement
  • Research experience and expertise in public policy analysis, in particular in the business and human rights field
  • Ability to use graphic design software
