HOURS: 37.5 hours/week with daytime and evening hours that could be between 6AM-12AM and occasional hours on weekends

PROGRAM:

HELP is a new program and partnership between Boyle Street Community Services and the Edmonton Police Service wherein frontline workers (Navigators) will work in tandem with police members.

The overarching goal of HELP is to connect vulnerable people who are interacting with frontline police members to appropriate social services, diverting them from the justice system and helping improve their quality of life, while easing demand on police and the justice system. HELP adopts a human-centred approach, which focuses on the vulnerable person’s day-to-day needs and longer-term challenges to support their transition to a safer lifestyle.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Manager will be responsible for supporting and directly supervising of 9 Navigator to ensure that program goals and mandate are met while working in partnership with the Sergeants who oversee the EPS employees

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the management, supervision and support of HELP Navigators
  • Work in direct partnership with the HELP Sergeant responsible for EPS staff
  • Work collaboratively with the HELP team as a whole and community partners to develop and manage individual case plans
  • Perform frontline duties working alongside Navigators and EPS to provide support and mentorship
  • Improve overall system performance by identifying and addressing system gaps, overlaps, and redundancies
  • Oversee and/or prepare, write and submit all required funding related reports in a timely manner
  • Proactively scout for funding opportunities as well as preparing and supporting the preparation of funding applications when required
  • Ensure proper training and professional development of staff and that staff have a clear understanding of their roles, responsibilities, and expectations
  • Participate in educational presentations to public and other stakeholders
  • Explore ways to expand our current services as well as opportunities to offer new services
  • Work with the Director of Programs and Finance to set and manage budgets on an annual basis
  • Attend and represent Boyle Street at all appropriate internal and external meetings
  • All other responsibilities as deemed reasonable and appropriate by the Director of Programs

Qualifications:

Education: A Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Health, Human Services, Social Sciences or Public Policy preferred. Candidates without a Degree but with extensive relevant and related experience will also be considered.

Skills, Abilities and Attitudes:

  • Ability to work in a highly stressful and ever changing environment
  • Must have excellent boundaries
  • Mental resiliency is key
  • Excellent case manager, an expert facilitator, an effective communicator and be able to nurture a culture of collaboration amongst diverse and competitive stakeholders
  • Able to manage and motivate employees with a strength-based approach, and provide direction and support to each program (e.g. supporting with strategic planning, program delivery, program evaluation, funding request and reporting)
  • Able to have difficult but respectful and ultimately constructive conversations with employees
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Experience and other requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ supervisory, management or leadership experience
  • A minimum 2 years’ experience delivering services to people facing multiple barriers (such as people who are experiencing homelessness, people with mental health concerns, individuals who use substances)
  • Experience with inner city agencies an asset
  • Current First Aid
  • Valid Driver’s license (non GDL) with clean driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Enhanced Security Clearance conducted by Edmonton Police Service and Child Intervention Check
