Cypress View Foundation is looking for a dynamic, friendly, outgoing professional who is passionate about creating “a great place to live” for low to moderate income seniors and “a great place to work” for volunteers, staff and management to become their next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
An energetic team-player who “leads by example”, the successful candidate will be comfortable taking a lead in promoting the Foundation to the community, positively influencing others by demonstrating respect, caring, honesty, integrity, safety and inclusiveness at all levels of interaction to achieve results that are in the best interests of the organization and its residents. They will be a relationship builder with excellent interpersonal skills, willing to embrace new approaches and collaborations to support and enhance the outcomes and impact of the organization. They will have the skills to solicit significant support for the Foundation’s mission and will be actively engaged in the community to ensure the Foundation is not just sustainable, but thrives into the future based on sound planning and organization.
The successful candidate will demonstrate and nurture the compassion, respect, caring and sense of home that is key to the success of the Foundation. This person will be a “leader, not a boss”, able to delegate responsibility and promote teamwork with a skilled and developing management team. Comfortable working within a union environment, they will be committed to being firm and fair, balancing respect and authority in making decisions while holding both themselves and others accountable.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of financial management, as well as extensive experience and knowledge of seniors’ supportive healthcare and housing and their related legislation, standards and policies. They will have experience supporting a nonprofit Board of Directors in its governance responsibilities and working with an engaged, passionate workforce.

About Cypress View Foundation
Cypress View Foundation provides affordable senior housing and supportive care for low to moderate-income seniors, in an efficient, effective and caring manner. Founded in 1960, we are a non-profit organization situated in Medicine Hat, Alberta, that aims to serve our residents with dignity, understanding, kindness and to continually improve the quality of life for our residents.
Funded by the Province of Alberta, City of Medicine Hat, Town of Redcliff, Cypress County, and Alberta Health Services, the Foundation is comprised of self-contained apartments, lodge accommodations, and supportive living care beds all contained within one complex with 4 wings. The facility includes:
Located on 5 acres of land in N.W. Crescent Heights, Cypress View Foundation overlooks the City of Medicine Hat and the Cypress Hills. With a budget approaching $7,000,000 and a unionized staff complement of nearly 100 (full, part time and casuals), the Foundation has a six-person Board of Directors composed of appointed representatives from the City of Medicine Hat, Town of Redcliff, and Cypress County.
The CAO is the senior administrative officer who works with the Board of Directors and an eight to ten person management and administrative team to create, manage and lead a collaborative workplace environment to meet the Vision and Mission of the Foundation through its Strategic Business Plan and core business strategies. The CAO is directly accountable to the Board of Directors of the Cypress View Foundation.
The CAO’s major mandate is to ensure that the Foundation has a long-range strategy to achieve its mission and vision, and makes consistent and timely progress on its goals. As the senior representative of the Foundation, the CAO clearly understands, demonstrates and practices the values and philosophy of the organization while building and supporting a strong, capable, engaged team who deliver quality programs and services in seniors’ housing and supportive care. Other key responsibilities include ensuring the optimal use of organizational finances, staff and resources; ensuring effective internal structures and processes; long range strategic and fiscal planning; building collaborative relationships with other agencies; enhancing the Foundation’s profile in the community; and ensuring our programs evolve to meet the changing needs of seniors.
Extensive leadership experience in seniors’ housing and supportive care is expected along with a post-secondary degree such as a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a related discipline. A combination of relevant experience and education will be considered.
