Bilingual (French/English) Mental health COUNSELLOR/psychotherapist

One full-time position - 35 hours/week

Location:  Hamilton

Salary range: $ 58, 412 to $ 74,482, excellent benefits


The incumbent will always work according to the principles of health promotion and the determinants of health. S/he will offer psychosocial evaluations and interventions as well as develop and implement brief intervention plans. In addition, S/he provide the appropriate referrals for clients with issues requiring long-term interventions.



  • Collaborate in the implementation of an engagement and promotion plan for primary care providers in independent practice and their clients
  • Organize activities to raise awareness of mental health issues
  • Provide assessment and individual mental health intervention services to clients of physicians in independent practice in the Niagara Region
  • Contribute to client intervention plans by participating in case discussions and in collaborative care planning
  • Participate, as needed, in community initiatives and committees to improve the quality of life of clients with mental health issues
  • Participate in the development and application of intervention models that ensure quality services
  • Liaise with community agencies to improve access to appropriate services in a timely manner
  • Prepare reports, maintain records and maintain program statistics

Education, Experience and specific requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Social Work or a related field from a recognized institution
  • Member in good standing of a Professional College (College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario or Ontario College of Social Worker or Social Service Worker )
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience
  • In-depth understanding of mental health issues
  • In-depth knowledge of psychosocial assessment and counseling techniques
  • Ability to handle crises effectively
  • Knowledgeable on the mental health community resources available in Niagara
  • ​Commitment to working co-operatively with clients and members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Openness to the customs and habits of other cultures
  • Good communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and ability to use basic computer software
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written French and English
  • Be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of clients
  • Have access to a motor vehicle and hold a valid Ontario driver's license
