Scouts Canada is seeking an Internal Communicator to join our Communications Department. Reporting to the Director, Communications as the Advisor, Internal Communications, you will play an integral role part of the Scouting Experience team developing and leading Scouts Canada’s annual internal communication strategy targeting members, volunteers, staff and parents.

This position will manages relationships with internal stakeholder to design and implement effective communications aligned with Scouts Canada’s strategic objectives.

 

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Accountable for leadership, development and implementation of internal communications strategies that engage Scouts Canada’s target audiences: Scouters, youth, parents, volunteers and staff.
  • Supports communications deliverable for Program, Scouter Support, Properties, Governance, Corporate Communications and Human Resources.
  • Works with various teams and the wider Scouting community to create strategic, innovative content that reflects key organizational priorities.
  • Manages local recruitment support to increase Group health and reach member renewal targets.
  • Manages internal communications channels, including digital properties, improving reach and engagement.
  • Responsible for the leadership, management and delivery of agreed outcomes and targets by third party companies and partners. e.g. website development and support.
  • Develops and manages e-communications intended for distribution across Scouts Canada functions;
  • Develops and manages printed material intended for distribution across Scouts Canada functions;
  • Responsible for the implementation of a brand strategy to “bring the brand to life” across the organization including the development of tools such as style guides.
  • Manages the brand centre to support continuous improvement for standardized, integrated and consistent communications for Scouts Canada across the country.
  • Analyses key metrics and data to report on business KPIs and impact and responsible for strategy development for improvements.
  • Accountable for the leadership and management of Translation Services and Translation volunteer network.
  • Responsible for effective partnership and collaboration with the Internal Communications and Translation Network volunteer Functional leadership & networks; relays best practices to team and gives regular updates on volunteer team performance.
  • Working with Director of Organizational Planning and other senior stakeholders, develops and disseminates emergency responses (crisis communications).

  • Leadership style that is engaging, results orientated and motivates others to succeed;
  • Superior writing, editing, and proof-reading skills, in addition to exceptional verbal communications skills;
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to develop communication plans, set and achieve strategic objectives and manage high-performance teams – attention to detail a pre-requisite;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work with all levels of management, staff & outside partners;
  • Excellent networking skills and able to build positive and professional relationships with community leaders, volunteers and members;
  • Initiative, coupled with a drive to produce results and the ability to stay focused on results despite changing conditions;
  • Able to deal effectively with rapid changes; possess a proactive, positive attitude and flexibility working in a fast-paced environment;
  • Good project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and provide direction to team members;
  • Strong volunteer engagement experience and developed skills – experience working with large volunteer groups in a complex service delivery / production field considered an asset.
  • Ability to develop and execute on complex communications strategies addressing multiple audience segments.

Education, Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related degree is preferred;
  • Completed post-secondary studies in Media, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Business and or Fundraising etc.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in a related role;
  • Experience writing, editing and crafting content for the email and web marketing;
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial work experience preferred;
  • Service Association and Not-for-Profit experience is an asset;
  • Bilingual would be considered an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Works in an office environment (remote work during COVID-19)
  • Irregular hours such as evening and weekend work will be required to achieve objectives and collaborate with volunteers – e.g. occasional weekend meetings and more regular out of office hours calls / meeting
  • Must remain discrete and maintain high levels of confidentiality
  • Must role model values of Scouts Canada including the Child and Youth Safety program.
  • PRC (Police Record Check) and VSS (Vulnerable Sector Check) required
  • Mandatory training requirement
