Position Description: The Employment Specialist works with the Manager, Employment and Training Services and a team of employment specialists to assess client employment need and develop service plans accordingly.  The successful candidate will also work to secure employment opportunities/ placements for clients in jobs that meet their career objectives.  

 

Position Type: Full time 6-month contract (possibility of extension)

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Assesses clients’ needs and assists them in developing a Service Plan
  • Keeps up-to-date information on referral sources by liaising with community partners
  • Makes appropriate referrals to Employment Ontario services and tracks clients’ progress
  • Manages a caseload of hundreds of clients annually, ensuring that written documentation and statistics for each file are consistently up to date
  • Assists clients with various components of the application process for training
  • Manages client information in EOIS and The Career Foundation’s database
  • Conducts onsite/offsite job search workshops
  • Participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of job search materials to meet the needs of job seekers with barriers to employment
  • Monitors individual client and group processes to maximize client learning, self-confidence, and employability skills
  • Makes resources available in print and online form and through short workshops on topics such as workplace health & safety and human rights and for audiences such as newcomers, youth, people with disabilities, laid-off workers, etc.
  • Assists employers to attract and recruit employees/skilled labour by facilitating employment-related events, internal job boards, employer prospecting activities
  • Identifies barriers to employment faced by clients and provides clients with supported referrals to appropriate community services
  • Assists in implementing effective program marketing strategies in the community
  • Assists clients in the exploration of occupational and training requirements, professional accreditation, language support, credential assessment and PLAR
  • Provides orientation to workplace, life skills coaching, support for disclosure of a disability
  • Supports assisted clients in planning and conducting job searching based on a realistic and accurate assessment of their qualifications for various job positions
  • Guides and supports clients in the daily completion of job search tasks
  • Conducts exit interviews with clients to ensure service provided was in accordance with service plans and met the highest standards of The Career Foundation
  • Assesses clients’ employment goals and determines whether further assistance or other referrals are required
  • Prepares and submits weekly and monthly reports on service and client activity
  • Collects data on service needs, service delivery and service satisfaction

Other Duties as Needed

  • Develops a resource pool of mentors/coaches
  • Develops support plans with participants and mentors/coaches
  • Links clients with appropriate mentors/coaches to provide support during and after job placement
  • Monitors mentor/coach relationships and their impact on workplace and individual success; facilitates adjustment as required
  • Plans and executes an effective outreach plan targeting appropriate clientele
  • Recruits clients and ensures that the required number access services
  • Initiates and maintains organized documentation (including a database) of contacted community organizations
  • Develops and implements outreach strategies, with supervisor’s approval, and monitors outreach activities
  • Participates in community events, job fairs and related activities to inform job seekers about The Career Foundation and recruit them for the program
  • Visits and builds relationships with community partners and organizations in the area, such as libraries, community centers, Toronto Community Housing, to facilitate client referrals  
  • Maintains flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
     

Qualifications/ Skills Required:

  • Must possess a university degree in social sciences or related
  • Experience in employment assessment and case management is required
  • Proven track record in a result’s driven environment, solid experience in meeting or exceeding targets
  • Experience in job search techniques and coaching, outreach, group facilitation and life skills coaching
  • Knowledge of the current labour market trends, the impact of COVID-19 on the labour market, job search techniques and employment research methods
  • Excellent knowledge of English grammar and spelling for the development of job search and business-related documents
  • Strong internal and external customer service focus, positive attitude, initiative, and professional attitude
  • Experience with youth, women's services, internationally educated professionals, newcomers, ESL job seekers, disability issues is an asset
  • Bilingual (English/French) is a very strong asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues by maintaining a solution-focused environment
  • Equipped to work remotely with adequate internet capabilities and ability to work from various Career Foundation sites, as needed
  • Knowledge on online communication platforms, techniques, and tools (Zoom, MS Teams and SharePoint) with an aptitude and willingness to learn and work with new technologies
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is essential for local travel
  • Flexible team player – willingness to take initiative to lend assistance where needed to ensure that the team is successful in meeting project goals.
