Old Strathcona Youth Society – Part time Contract Position: Indigenous Resource Coordinator

Contract to September 15th, 2021 with potential to be extended

 

The Old Strathcona Youth Society is a front-line, multi-agency team that has been established to contribute support, information and resources to a community of youth 14 to 24 years old in the Old Strathcona area and Edmonton.  “The Co-op” strives to be a flexible, street-level resource concerned with securing the safety, self-worth and dignity of youth. 

 

The Old Strathcona Youth Society is currently seeking an individual to fill the contract position of Indigenous Resource Coordinator. This position is part time evenings and Saturdays.

 

Responsibilities: As an Indigenous Resource Coordinator you will be responsible for providing information and referral services to youth within the Co-op including: building trusting, intentional relationships,  organizing and/or facilitating workshops on Indigenous culture, working 1:1 with youth exploring Indigenous traditions, rituals, and resources. You will organize and arrange recreational opportunities on occasion to help facilitate learning and immersion. Supervising activities within the Co-op and maintaining a safe and functional space for youth to access basic needs is paramount.  It will be important that the person who fills the position has a strong understanding of youth services and resources in Edmonton.  The position involves evening shifts and Saturdays. 

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • Diploma or degree in a health or human services related field (social work, child and youth care, psychology, sociology, nursing, education etc.).
  • At least two years’ experience working with high risk populations
  • The ability to build rapport with youth.
  • Standard first aid with level C CPR
  • Suicide intervention and crisis intervention training would also be an asset.
  • Criminal Record and Child Welfare Intervention check.
