Position Summary:

Pacific Community Resources Society requires Recovery Coaches for our Youth and Young Adult Residential treatment centre in Keremeos.   This position is a permanent 2 shifts a week, primarily Evenings, but can vary to include Day shifts.  Staff may at times be required to work a Nightshift, awake, when operationally necessary.

The Recovery Coach will work as part of a large team and be responsible for the emotional and special needs of youth in a substance use treatment program. The core role is to provide basic care and nurturing, set reasonable expectations and limits and to participate in supporting the achievement of identified goals for each individual participant. This requires a sound understanding of both normal and delayed or problematic development behaviours and barriers, impulsivity, attachment issues, FASD, ADHD, the effects of abuse and how this all relates to substance use.  

This position will also act as a positive role model for our participants and assist them in developing values of honesty, self-assertiveness, respect for self, others, and community.  Additionally, you will assist Youth to make positive changes in their relationship to addictive substances, and self - harming and destructive behaviours.

The successful applicant will possess a strong ability to provide assessment utilizing individual and/or group counselling skills, behaviour management and assist clinical staff where needed.  As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the applicant will have strong skills in teamwork, group dynamics and program planning. The successful applicant will also have experience and knowledge in the area of addictions/residential work and working with at-risk youth and young adults.


Academic and Job Experience Required:

B.A. in a related field plus one-year related experience or an Addictions Counselling Certificate plus two years’ experience in a similar residential setting, or Child and Youth Care Diploma plus two years’ experience in a similar residential setting. A combination of related experience, life experience and education may be considered.


Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
  • Class 4 Drivers License required, or willing to obtain within 4 months
  • Driver’s Abstract
  • Sound judgement and effective interpersonal skills
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong understanding of substance use and strategies to assist youth
