TITLE:                    Human Resources Assistant

REPORTS TO:       Director, Human Resources

 

ROLE SUMMARY

The Human Resources Assistant performs a range of HR administrative and clerical duties to support day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department including recruitment, benefits, HR information systems (HRIS), employee wellness and safety. This position is a key contact for employees within the organization, and requires a highly motivated, organized HR professional.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provides administrative and clerical support to the Human Resources department
  • Assists in recruitment including administration of job postings, intake and screening of resumes and applications, preparing downboards, primary source verification, Criminal Record Checks, and onboarding
  • Responds to inquiries from employees and operation managers on a variety of issues regarding policies and procedures, collective agreements and employment standards
  • Maintains the HRIS database through data input and audits. Keeps all employee electronic and paper records up-to-date and in compliance with applicable accreditation standards and legal requirements
  • Assists in the development and updating of the Human Resources section of the company website
  • Assists in the administration of staff training, licensing, and accreditation requirements
  • Determines eligibility and processes benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Human Resources Coordinator

 

QUALIFICATIONS

A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Certificate or Diploma in Human Resource Management plus one year of experience in HR, preferably in a unionized environment.

  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices
  • Experience in recruiting and administration of benefits and other HR programs
  • Knowledge of working in a unionized setting is an asset
  • Highly organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality and errors
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skills in database management and record keeping
  • Ability to maintain and exercise a high degree of discretion and confidentiality
