Title:  Language Instructor

Program: Immigrant Settlement & Integration Program

Nature: Part-time

Number of Positions: 2

Duration: September 28, 2020 to March 31, 2021

Salary: $30.00/hour - $31.52

Location: Surrey Region

 

Classes Available:

·     LINC 4 EVE: 6:30-9:00pm; Tuesday to Thursday (7.5 hours/week + 15 minutes preparation time per one hour of class time, for a total of 9.38 hours/week)

NOTE: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this class will be 100% online for the foreseeable future.

·     LINC 1 EVE: 6:30-9:00pm; Tuesday to Thursday (7.5 hours/week + 15 minutes preparation time per one hour of class time, for a total of 9.38 hours/week)

NOTE: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this class will be a combination of face-to-face with Zoom sessions.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·     Prepares and delivers CLB-aligned and student-centred lesson plans according to the students’ needs and according to the S.U.C.C.E.S.S.S. curriculum

·     Teaches in an engaging and effective manner, respectful of student diversity and needs

·     Maintains accurate records, including attendance sheets and submits reports promptly to ensure students’ progress effectively

·     Assesses students using CLB indicators and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA)

·     Plans for appropriate filed trips and guest speakers

·     Creates a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment

 

Qualifications and Experience:

·     A TESL Canada recognized TESL/TESOL certificate or diploma if the undergraduate degree is not in TESL/TESOL

·     At least 2 years’ experience teaching adult ESL, particularly community-based settlement ESL

·     Experience teaching ESL adult students using student-centred and task-based approaches

·     Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment

·     Knowledge of CLB-based language instruction

·     Knowledge of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA)

 

Job Skills and Abilities:

·     Excellent written and oral communication skills

·     Excellent attention to detail with

·     Ability to work independently and as a part of a team

·     Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel and Outlook

·     Proficient use of online teaching and communication platforms, such as Moodle and Zoom

·     Proficient use of interactive white boards

·         Clear Criminal Record Check
