Seeking a Cultural Support Worker

Creating Hope Society Strengthening Homefires Cultural Support Program is an early intervention and prevention program created to support our program participants and provide a strength-based approach to enhance a family’s capacity by addressing and understanding their strengths, needs and their goals.

Our Strengthening Homefires Cultural Support Program serves a diverse group of people and we need a Cultural Support Worker that reflects that diversity. This position is for folks who identify as Indigenous (First nations, Inuit and Metis).

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote and support traditional cultural teachings and practices for our children, youth and families such as Traditional Parenting.
  • Provide supportive and trusting relationships with the family members
  • Engage in collaborative community partnerships to promote traditional healing, cultural teachings and practice.
  • Participate in team meetings, agency meetings and training deemed
  • Maintain an appropriate record and information system and ensure that confidentiality is a priority.
  • Ensure that all relevant documentation is complete (contact notes, pre-post evaluation, exit interviews be completed by team-lead).
  • Adhere to Creating Hope Society’s policies and standards personnel
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment.
  • Help build a model of cultural safety for grieving, the ceremonial healing process, and to reintroduce the traditional ways of knowing and doing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Social Work Diploma, Human Services Diploma, or Aboriginal studies with lived experience
  • Teachings and experience in traditional language, knowledge, healing practices and wisdom
  • Experience working with children, youth and
  • Experience with case management required.
  • Demonstrates practical and historical knowledge of intergenerational trauma, stress and cultural repression
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task in a dynamic working environment; self-motivated personality; ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Demonstrates an ability to maintain composure and performance while under stress or Manages personal stress by utilizing various appropriate coping skills.
  • Must have knowledge in Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Must have reliable transportation and current valid Alberta Driver’s License and 2 million insurance and liability coverage
  • Driver’s Abstract required
  • Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Intervention Check required
