The Heatherton Group Home Society is a non-profit organization located in Heatherton, Nova Scotia and is governed by a nine-person board of directors. The Group Home is funded under the Community Services Disability Support Program and is a Level 2 home.

The Heatherton Group Home is currently home to eight intellectually challenged adults ages 28 – 68. This home has always embraced a collaborative approach to managing the many facets of homelife with the basic goal of providing a rich and warm environment for residents, their families, and staff. 

The Board delegates responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the Executive Director, who has the authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will:

  • Manage and oversee the financial management of the organization ensuring fiscal integrity of all transactions and the financial sustainability of the organization;
  • Negotiate and secure funding contracts and ensure compliance with all funding and regulatory requirements;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and licensing requirements of a Group Home;
  • Manage the human resources of the organization including hiring, directing and providing oversight to all staff, contractors and volunteers;
  • Develop and implement the operational plan to meet the mandate and objectives of the organization including individual program plans for residents;
  • Deliver reports to the board to ensure the board has the information required to make sound decisions for the organization;
  • Support the governance of the organization by advising and informing the Board as well as interfacing between the board and staff;
  • Foster positive relationships with residents, their families and staff;
  • Foster collaboration with community partners and related organizations to create opportunities for active participation for residents within the community;
  • Liaise with like-minded organizations to stay abreast of trends and opportunities.
