Mom2Mom Child Poverty Initiative Society was founded in 2012 to support women who are parenting below the poverty line to build resiliency and keep their families intact. Our team of staff, donors and volunteers connects women to others who can offer support, advice, resources and practical strategies to help alleviate poverty-related stress. Motherhood can be challenging under any circumstances. Struggles faced by women raising children below the poverty line in a city like Vancouver – with the dauntingly high cost of housing, food, childcare and transportation – make it really tough.
Mom2Mom strives to increase the social, emotional, and financial resources of program participants so that their poverty-related stress decreases. We know that has a tremendously positive impact on family life. “When moms thrive, children thrive.” Our vision is a future where all moms are connected to a community of caring and their basic needs are met.
Who We Need Now
One focus of Mom2Mom’s board and staff is on developing long-term sustainability. Our volunteer Board of Directors is currently seeking an additional member who is enthusiastic about and competent in fund development/fundraising, preferably with non-profit or charitable sector board experience. Someone whose ideas, engagement expertise and mentorship will help us expand and retain our generous donor base.
The scope of work of Mom2Mom’s Board is strategic, fiduciary and generative. The board provides oversight of the organization, and strategic planning in partnership with staff. The board stewards the organization by determining, monitoring, and ensuring appropriate organizational performance, and fulfills the highest fiduciary duties, including fiscal accountability and positive organizational outcomes.

Board Directors should be prepared to spend 6-8 or more hours bi-monthly on Board and Committee matters. This would include a combination of electronic/telecommunications and in-person meetings (at the SpencerCreo Centre, 610 Main St.), although during COVID-19 all meetings are by teleconference or video-conference (e.g., Zoom).
We ask all Board members for an initial one-year commitment, which can be renewed up to a maximum of 3 consecutive 2-year terms.
