Policy & Special Projects Manager (12-month contract)


Working with the COO, the contract position manages the planning and execution of strategic and operational special projects.  The key focus will be on a specific organizational project – Policies Review & Update Project.  The position will be responsible for managing the design and execution of work, interacting with key stakeholders across all 7 of Children Believe’s global locations, coordinating activities of colleagues while taking ownership of key work activities.  This project aims to (a) establish a system for regularly reviewing and updating our policies; (b) execute the system, such that within one calendar year, we have a strong comprehensive and updated set of strategic and operational policies.  Workload permitting, the Policy & Special Projects Manager will also focus on other important projects. 


This role includes, but not limited to: 

  • Oversees the development and management of a policy framework for the effective development and maintenance of an integrated system;
  • Identifies policy issues, and conducts research, consultations and analysis;
  • Prepares options and recommendations;
  • Receives approval from the appropriate levels and implements approved options;
  • Coordinates work with technical experts and provides research and analysis for guidelines that support policies;
  • Writes decision documents for approval;
  • Prepares and coordinates briefing material, reports, speaking notes and correspondence on current issues;
  • Responsible for developing and implementing work plans, identifying and defining key initiatives and outcomes, conducting research, writing policy papers, and making recommendations for consideration;
  • Interprets, applies, updates and provides advice existing policies and guidelines for staff, executive, and other departments;
  • Leads and/or participates in other key projects, as needed. 

The ideal candidate possesses: 

  • Completion of a degree or diploma program in a related discipline e.g. business;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing and presenting information;
  • Excellent project management skills with demonstrated prior work experience developing and executing key special projects;
  • Strong analytical and research skills, able to identify gaps and ways to fill those gaps;
  • Highly organized, attention to detail and excellent follow-through required;
  • Superior initiative and leadership skills – ideally with demonstrated experience identifying and executing improvements;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal staff and affiliated organizations;
  • Ability to speak and/or write in either French or Spanish will be considered an asset;

Location: The office is located at 1200 Denison Street, Markham, ON. Staff are currently working from home with some flexibility on in-office activity until further notice (due to Covid-19 related health precautions).
