Position:              Youth Outreach Worker (YOW)

$24.00 hour / 35 hours per week (Full-time)


The YOW will have education, knowledge and training of adolescent development, mental health and criminogenic needs and an understanding of youth issues and the systems youth operate within. In addition, the youth worker will have an ability to build relationships and engage with youth who have been difficult to engage in support services and provide support services wherever the youth may be across the Metro Vancouver area.




  • Work from a strength based perspective to assess strengths and needs of youth and families.
  • Provide one-to-one support and outreach of youth who have multiple risk factors: mental health, addictions, complex behaviors such as FASD and/or developmental delays and/or are involved in high risk activities (e.g. sexual exploitation, criminal activity, street involvement, self-harm)
  • One-to-one service to adjudicated and non-adjudicated youth with a history of being difficult to engage in support services and/or healthy activities
  • Provide goal focused intervention through assessing client needs, and develop service plans to assist youth/family achieve objectives.
  • Provide support and education to family/caregiver where required.
  • Community outreach.
  • Provide life skills training in both an individual and group setting.
  • Maintain accurate reports and file documentation in accordance with COA administrative and service standards.
  • Work in a collaborative practice model with community agencies and organizations.



  • A degree in social work, psychology or related field, with 2 years’ experience in the field of youth and family services.
  • Experience delivering community-based services to youth and their families.
  • Knowledge of working with mental health and neurological disorders.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and issues related to at risk youth.
  • Knowledge of sexual exploitation and experience working with sexually exploited youth.
  • Knowledge of the legislation and policies that govern service delivery in the social service sector.
  • Knowledge of collaborative practice and effectively work with a variety of professionals.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional report writing skills.
  • Class 5 license and vehicle required; Class 4 or willingness to get.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, some evening/weekend work required
  • First-aid and Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification required.
