The Psychologist reports to the Director of the Specialized Services and provides psychotherapy, counselling and assessment services to improve the mental health of clients. At the same time, he/she guides CSCHN professionals in consultation, education and treatment planning for clients and their families facing mental health challenges.

 

Main responsibilities

  • Assess client need (adults, couples and families)
  • Implement treatment adapted to meet the needs of clients (individual, group, family, etc.)
  • Ensure data entry into the client's electronic record according to procedures established by the CSCHN, the College of Psychologists of Ontario and the criteria established by the CSCHN for maintaining records
  • Use psychological tests or assessments in the client's treatment process
  • Provide individual, couple, group and family therapy to clients according to the standards established by the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Help to find the required community resources and increase community awareness of mental health issues (e.g., open houses)
  • Liaise between CSCHN resources, community resources and other health service organizations and the client - as required
  • Ensure that appropriate treatment is provided by maintaining up-to-date clinical records, writing assessments and letters while respecting client confidentiality as needed and based on the clients’ needs
  • Participate in the development of new mental health programs in consultation with other staff and relevant staff members of other organizations
  • Participate in research projects and/or prepare presentations - upon request

 

Qualifications 

  • Master's or Doctorate in Psychology
  • Three to five years' experience in psychological assessment and in the application of treatment techniques for children and adults
  • Experience in helping others (counselling)
  • Experience in individual, couple and family psychotherapy
  • Clinical supervision experience
  • Experience in clinical/statistical record keeping
  • Be a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario as Psychologist or Psychological Associate
  • Experience in providing couple therapy would be an asset
  • Be available to work days, evenings and weekends as needed, and remain flexible to work after regular hours
  • Have a valid driver's license and access to a motor vehicle
  • A valid first aid and CPR certificate would be an asset
  • Provide a criminal record check including the vulnerable sector check
