The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness and crime.

 

Located in Chilliwack, the IRT program provides live-in services for women with moderate to severe substance misuse. Women participate in this 4-6 month bed-based program that addresses substance use management through individual support, intensive group programs, and clinical counselling. Operating on an awake around the clock basis, staff provide women with individualized case management planning and coordination, planning for the long-term management of their substance use, transition planning, and linkage with community resources. Clinical counselling and expressive arts therapy are included.

 

We are seeking an on-call Cook for of our program located in Chilliwack.  You will oversee the day to day operations of the kitchen in a licensed residential facility, including all aspects of planning, receiving, storage, preparation and service of food.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • General food preparation and cooking of meals
  • Follow dietitian approved meal plans
  • Ensure a high level of quality, cleanliness and safety in all food preparation
  • Ensure Foodsafe standards are followed at all times

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Certificate in Institutional Cooking from recognized culinary arts school or equivalent experience
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • Experience working in a community care facility is preferred

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to manage and operate a commercial-standard kitchen safely, effectively and within budget
  • Understanding of women’s issues and experience working with marginalized population
  • Time management
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently
