Lifeskills Literacy Instructor | Toronto | COMPETITION # 2020-044

 

Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for a Lifeskills Literacy Instructor, based in Toronto. Reporting to the Manager, Training Services, the Lifeskills Literacy Instructor will provide literacy and essential life skills instruction to Deaf adults. This will include teaching classes on the communication, numeracy, and digital skills needed to secure and maintain employment, further education, participate in training opportunities, and increase personal independence.   

 

This is a permanent, full-time position, working Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

 

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education or equivalent certification, as well as 2-3 years’ related work experience including developing and adapting lesson plans and related materials, combined with utilizing various teaching styles, to match and fulfill student needs. You are proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and possess a strong understanding of Deaf culture. You will also be someone with a sense of urgency who can handle pressure and has the ability to manage a varied work load with competing priorities and deadlines.
