Youth Housing First works with youth between the ages of 16-24 years to find to safe, secure and sustainable permanent housing. Youth Housing First follows the Critical Time Intervention model that builds, tests, and refines connections to mainstream systems and natural supports (family and friends) to meet all of a person’s needs over a 9-month period.

The Housing Support Workers operate in partnership with a Complex Case Coordinator from EJHS and Homeward Trust Edmonton to secure appropriate housing placements. The Housing Support Workers are mobile to best offer their services to youth within the community to help the youth maintain their housing. In addition, the Housing Support Workers administer all assessments for the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the housing needs of youth by finding safe, secure, affordable permanent housing
  • Coordinate care by liaising with other community agencies and partners to develop a support network for youth
  • Build positive professional relationships with related community agencies
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, guardians and other professionals involved with youth
  • Utilize the Critical Time Intervention case management model to prevent recurrent homelessness
  • Maintain information in the agency database and participate in program evaluation and statistical information

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Degree or Diploma in a Human Services related field
  • Two – five years’ experience working with high risk youth in the community, including outreach and residential
  • Understanding and experience engaging in Harm Reduction, Strength Based and Trauma Informed approaches
  • Strong knowledge of community resources for youth
  • Strong listening skills, relationship building, and assessment skills
  • Able to motive youth and work with their needs in a non-judgemental and client centered manner
  • Able to follow the agency’s philosophy and core values
  • Must be self-directed, flexible, team orientated and able to follow direction
  • Criminal Record Check, Child Intervention Record Check and Standard First Aid and CPR
  • A safe reliable vehicle with business insurance and a willingness to transport youth

Conditions of Employment:

The Housing Support Worker is an outreach position where the worker will be required to be in the community assisting the youth meeting with community partners and other youth serving agencies. A safe reliable vehicle with business insurance will be required to complete this role. There may be times where the Housing Support Workers will have to work evenings and weekends to best meet the needs of the youth.  The primary hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8:30AM-4:30PM. 

Interviews for the position will be conducted on October 22 and 23, 2020.

Salary:

The starting salary is $43,000 annually, with a competitive benefits package available upon successful completion of the probationary period.
