Centre for Independent Living, known as CILT, is a consumer-controlled, community-based resource organization. We help people with disabilities learn Independent Living skills and integrate into the community.  

CILT operates on the philosophy of the Independent Living movement which was developed in response to traditional rehabilitation services models. CILT's aim is to develop and implement dignified social services that empower individuals rather than create dependencies. We encourage people with disabilities to take control of their own lives by exercising their right to examine options, make choices, take risks and even make mistakes.

Principal Accountabilities: 

Team and Program Leadership, Planning and Delivery 

  • Lead a small team of ASAC staff in accordance with CILT policies  
  • Oversee the smooth operation of the ASAC program; plan and coordinate program activities and service delivery; develop, review and revise documentation relating to ASAC process and policies to ensure consistency and accountability 
  • Maintain ASAC’s high level of client services 
  • Coordinate the ASAC team’s processing of applications and administrative documents according to prescribed policies, procedures and funder requirements 
  • Maintain and modify the ASAC database system as needed, to ensure it is operational, accurate and responsive to changing needs 
  • Report to, and work closely with, CILT’s Executive Director on strategic program matters 

Applicant Services & Partner Relationships 

  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with service provider partners; coordinate and participate in working groups/committees and joint projects 
  • Promote the independent living philosophy and consumer voices in ASAC’s work with attendant service and supportive housing partners, the broader health sector and LHIN/OHT partners 
  • Promote and support incorporation of equity and intersectionality principles in assessment of applicants  
  • Actively collaborate with the ASAC Waitlist Collaborative working group, helping to further strengthen its processes and impact 
  • Explore information technology needs of the ASAC program including database and storage system, information sharing with service providers and data security 
  • Effectively manage and deliver the Student Attendant Service Fund (SASF) and the Attendant Outreach Contingency Fund 
  • Liaise and network with other relevant health and social service sector providers 
  • Supervise the production of program materials as required, together with program staff and partners 
  • Supervise the compiling of statistics and waitlist reports; provide timely statistics and applicant data to service providers as requested 
  • Organize and facilitate public education activities relating to ASAC, attendant services and the independent living philosophy, such as workshops and information sessions

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Related work experience within the attendant services and/or home care sector and/or a current user of attendant services 
  • Leadership and people/project management skills and experience 
  • Familiarity with program design and implementation, and policy and procedures development 
  • Ability to maintain a database and undertake database analysis and produce quality statistics 
  • Experience with facilitation and presentation with professional and consumer stakeholders 
  • Good knowledge of disability issues and related services, including attendant service delivery programs, transitional and supportive housing 
  • Ability to incorporate Independent Living philosophy, anti-oppression and diversity principles in work with consumers, staff and partners 
  • Knowledge of PHIPA 
  • Strong computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Office Access is an asset) 
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field such as sociology, social work, occupational therapy, equity studies, or other human rights-based fields of study is an asset
