About the Position:

The Employer Specialist engages with employers and connects Internationally Trained Immigrants (ITPs) to employment opportunities that enhance their self-sufficiency to develop their careers in Canada by providing Paid Work Placement.  

Reports to: Program Manager 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs cold calls and has online/face-to-face meetings with potential employers to develop specific work placement opportunities that match program participants’ skills, training, work experience, interests and career goals 
  • Maintains productive ongoing relationships with existing employers and actively reaches out to establish relationships with new employers  
  • Provides individualized support to employers to enhance their capacity to better hire, develop and retain internationally trained professionals  
  • Communicates with service providers and employers for marketing and client referrals 
  • Customizes participants’ resumes to fit identified opportunities and conducts mock interviews to prepare participants for job interviews 
  • Identifies and develops a strategic service plan that serves both the employers’ hire and program’s placement needs 
  • Achieves weekly and monthly placement goals in accordance with program targets  
  • Works with participants individually to identify and match a suitable employer for the Targeted Work Experience intervention 
  • Develops a Targeted Work Experience Training Schedule with the participant and employer to specify the placement objectives, goals, milestones and expected outcomes for the placement 
  • Provides ongoing support to both participants and employers to ensure training and development objectives are being met 
  • Provides professional mentoring or networking opportunities for participants to continue to enhance their employability  
  • Keeps track of participants’ progress and provide regular follow up support and guidance to every case managed client 
  • Provides participants with job maintenance support in order to achieve sustainable and permanent employment after the targeted work experience period  
  • Follows up with participants on a bi-weekly basis to consistently support, guide and motivate them 
  • Manages online forum, monitors clients’ participation and provides online support if required 
  • Provides intensive training and guidance to prepare participants to be ready for the work experience placement 
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required 
  •  

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree in career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, sociology, human resources, counselling, education, or human resources management 
  • Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) or equivalent designation or demonstrated plan to pursue similar designation 
  • Two years of work experience in a social service environment as a job developer, employer liaison, job Coach and/or employment case manager 
  • Experience in connecting with employers to provide job experience for clients  
  • Experience and knowledge in career counselling 
  • Experience in working with individuals with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds 
  • Experience in facilitating workshops and group activities, including but not limited to job search, basic life skills, essential work skills and soft skills  
  • Knowledge of labour market trends and information in British Columbia 

Job Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • A second language is considered an asset 
  • Ability to build partnerships with employers, community agencies and other stakeholders 
  • Ability to provide job search support for internationally trained professionals  
  • Excellent skills in conducting and interpreting client needs assessments   
  • Ability to support clients in developing realistic and achievable Action Plans 

Other Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check required 
  • Able to work weekends and evenings as required
