WJS Canada is currently looking for an individual to join our Youth Horizons program in Victoria, as a permanent, part-time Residence Worker.

The Program

Youth Horizons, located in a freshly renovated two-story home in the Gordon Head area of Saanich, provides support in a safe home environment for at-risk youth (13-18 years of age) receiving services through the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). Currently this co-ed home houses 3 female teens, with the potential for 2 additional youth.  Our programs and services nurture personal growth, teach life skills and provide help for emotional issues, abuse, mental health concerns, abandonment and addictions.


The Position:

WJS Canada is recruiting a Residence Worker, for our trauma informed team to serve as a positive role model, provide care and optimize each youth’s potential in a supportive environment. You will provide compassionate care and support, supervise children and youth, maintain the home (cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.) and handle any crisis situations that may occur (AWOL, persons in care under the influence of drug or alcohol, etc.). This position requires membership with BCGEU.



One (1) permanent part-time position of 14 hours per week:

  • Saturday and Sunday 1900-2300
  • Monday 1700-2200
  • Additional hours may be available, subject to the program's needs. 

***Prior to confirmation of employment with WJS Canada, all applicants are required to participate in MCFD screening and provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) BC Ministry Check.***


As an ideal candidate you possess the following qualifications:

  • Previous experience with operating a licensed home and trauma informed practice
  • Training in substance use is an asset
  • Familiarity with Housing First, Harm Reduction and Employment First initiatives
  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates
  • Valid BC Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract and a reliable vehicle
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and Conflict Resolution Certificate
  • Positive behavior supports experience

Other Requirements:

  • Clear physician’s note confirming suitability, including a negative tuberculosis screening test
  • Successful candidate must sign an oath of confidentiality, a conflict of interest statement, abuse protocols and a code of ethics statement.
