Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for Deafblind Supporter Worker role based in Thunder Bay. Reporting to the Supervisor, Intervening Services, the Deafblind Support Worker will act as a communicator and sighted guide for individuals with a combined loss of hearing and sight to provide access to information and facilitate interaction with their environment and surroundings. Additional responsibilities will involve assisting with daily tasks, transporting or accompanying clients to and from assignments and/or appointments, and providing support regarding assistive devices, etc. 

 

This is a part-time contract position until March 31, 2022, working 21 hours/week, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

 

The ideal candidate must have a Diploma in Deafblind services or equivalent, e.g. studies in human or community, as well as 1-2 years’ experience working with Deafblind clients and have formal training in ASL. Bilingualism (French/English) as well as LSQ training and alternative communication skills such as Two Hand Manual, Braille would be preferred. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for frequent local (as well as occasional out of town) travel with clients.
