Student Links Coordinator – Kingston & Area

Community Living Ontario is a non-profit, province-wide federation which; advocates for, promotes and facilitates the full participation, inclusion and citizenship of people who have an intellectual disability.  We are a progressive leader in the developmental services sector representing more than 12,000 individuals, families, member organizations and community partners. 

As part of a provincial organization - Community Living Ontario, the Student Links Coordinator reports to the Manager and is responsible for the implementation of the Student Links Program in Kingston area.  This is a one (1) year contract with the possibility of extension.  This position requires you to work remotely from your home office.

The Student Links Initiative provides opportunities for secondary school students who have an intellectual disability to gain new experiences and to explore new possibilities for themselves. It is intended to enhance their capacity to make informed post school decisions prior to leaving school and is available to students between the ages 14 and 21. 

Students are provided with an opportunity to meet and be matched with a mentor who can connect them to information or opportunities in their areas of interest.  Coordinators, while promoting the natural network surrounding the student, will assist the student in this exploration, recruiting the mentor, and matching the student.  Coordinators will facilitate the engagement of students with mentors. 

Successful candidates will possess a combination of the following qualifications, experiences, and skills:

  • Post-secondary education.
  • Experience in areas of education, community development and networking.  
  • Effectively utilize their personal community connections when seeking out opportunities for students.
  • Effective at making connections with potential mentors.
  • Develop and implement strategies for meeting new people and engaging potential mentors.
  • Demonstrates effective project management, community development and coordination skills.
  • Experience in working with diverse populations and individuals who have experienced marginalization.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of Social Role Valorization (SRV)
  • Have first-hand experience and community connections in Kingston, ON.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills; verbal, written, and facilitation.
  • Knowledge of the experiences and issues facing people who have a disability
  • Understands the principles and vision of the Community Living movement
