Sunset Community Association is seeking an energetic leader to set-up and facilitate community outreach activities with the Sunset community garden. The outreach leader will also connect with neighbourhood agencies in hosting community events and activities such as workshops, seed swaps, and special events as part of social engagement with the community.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Outreach and liaising:
With community groups and partners, such as SVNH, GVFB, United Way.
With community members and host community events and activities, such as gardening workshops, seed and plant swap, giveaway
Installation or set-up of planters. Handheld building tools and gardening tools will be used
Planting of seeds and seedlings in the community garden
Maintenance of garden beds on a regular basis, including weeding, pest control, deadheading, seed collection, and harvest
Minor maintenance and care of the garden shed
Managing promotion of activities and community garden
Seeking additional resources, including grants, to support additional community garden projects and support
Maintaining safety of staff and community members during work hours, community workshops and events
Performing basic first aid as needed
The development and expansion of additional community garden beds and spaces
Managing a small and tight budget, and light administrative duties
Ability to speak a second language is an asset
Ability to work independently and contribute positively to a team environment
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge and experience working with all ages
Proven leadership ability
Valid First Aid and CPR, Clearance of a Police Record Check
To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
Work Schedule: Up to 40 hrs/wk, maximum 280 hours. Part-time basis with ending date no later than Feb 28, 2021.
Community Garden Outreach Leader - An hourly wage of $14.65 – $17.00 (+4% in lieu of benefits), dependent on grant funding and budget
