Please note that as these positions will be in our ERC and our Isolation Centre, we supply PPE and training but being comfortable working with clients who may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus is a must. The duration of these positions is expected to be between 4-7 months.

As the world grapples with COVID 19, Progressive Housing Society is stepping up to safely support our most vulnerable individuals who need shelter during this time of pandemic. The Progressive Housing Community Support Worker provides a range of supports, serving homeless/at risk individuals. Services include a bed, food, and general support of clients who may be facing complex bio-psycho-social issues.

 

The Progressive Housing Community Support Worker provides a range of supports, serving homeless/at risk individuals. Services include a bed, food, and general support of clients who may be facing complex bio-psycho-social issues. The Community Support Worker is also responsible for the daily operations of the facility including: intaking new participants into the program; food service; updating client records; communicating effectively with clients and other staff; and maintaining a clean safe and secure environment for staff and clients by participating in regular and timely needle sweeps. The Community Support Worker will coordinate with the Outreach Team and maintain communication between shifts about participant’s housing plans. The minimal barrier approach of the site will require excellent and flexible engagement skills. The Community Support Worker actively participates in building a skilled, cohesive, collaborative staff team, including demonstrating commitment to program principles; resolving conflict and negativity as they arise; assisting in orienting, training and mentoring of all staff, including casuals and peer supports. The Community Support Worker must to be able to work at different locations and complete other duties as directed. Flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the clients & mandate of the program.

HOURS OF WORK:

Emergency Response Centre

  • Part-time: Thursday & Friday 11:30 p.m. - 7:30 a.m., Sunday and Monday 12:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m

Isolation Centre

  • Part-time: Sunday & Monday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Friday & Saturday 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Part-time: Thursday & Friday 4:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m., Saturday & Sunday 3:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
  • Part-time: Thursday & Friday 11:30 p.m. - 7:30 a.m., Sunday and Monday 12:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field such as Psych, Criminology or Social Work with:
  • 1 year of related experience with emphasis on mental health, substance use homelessness and/or social services.

OR

  • Diploma/Certificate in Social services or health with:
  • 3 years related experience with emphasis on mental health, substance use, homelessness and/or social services.

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience, including lived experience, may be considered.

AND

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Naloxone Training.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
  • Successful clearance of a criminal record check.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Onsite monitoring of ERC guests.
  • Supporting the wellbeing of individuals staying in the ERC with scheduled wellness checks and as-needed support.
  • Ensuring compliance with ERC and Isolation Centre policies.
