EMCN has been supporting newcomers of all ages and families, including refugees, skilled immigrants, refugee claimants, and citizens since 1981. In a year, we serve newcomers from more than 100 countries of origin, and offer services in over 30 languages.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Team Lead and Clinical director, the Psychotherapist builds relationships with immigrant and refugee families, youth and children and provides services from a holistic perspective. The Psychotherapist will work closely with team members of the Families and Wellbeing team, which includes several therapists, social workers, youth workers and settlement workers as well as professional and community partners in the implementation and ongoing evaluation of therapeutic counseling services to adults, children, and youth and families.

Key Responsibilities:

• The Psychotherapist will be responsible for providing therapeutic services, holistic assessments as well as supported referrals to appropriate agency services and programming or to external services as need.
• The Psychotherapist will provide information and offer appropriate services in a location and time accessible to the client, which might include schools, places in the community, online, at home or in the office.
• Appropriate documentation, provision of reports and support of funding reports on a regular basis are required.
• As services are partially home or school-based, a vehicle and driver’s license are required.

Qualifications:

• Masters degree in counseling, clinical psychology, family therapy or clinical social work with experience in counseling.
• Experience in working with children, training in play therapy, or other child specific modalities is an asset for this specific position
• Member of a professional organization (CCPA. CAP. APA or similar)
• Understands and adheres to professional ethics related to psychological counseling
• Is knowledgeable and abides by FOIP regulations.
• Experience working with children, youth, adult and family group survivors of torture and trauma, preferably refugee/immigrant survivors of sustained trauma is an asset

Skills and Competencies:

• Cultural competency/humility and strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with willingness to learn.
• Flexibility and enjoyment of ever changing realities in terms of service delivery, needs of population served, demographics of population served

• Committed to collaborative work, but also able to manage tasks independently

• Strong English communications skills.
• Experience/facility with MS Office and various video conferencing platforms
• Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages.
• Possess a valid class 5 driver's license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage for work.
• Must have authorization to work in Canada.
• Intervention Record Check and Criminal Record Check required

Start Date: targeting mid to late January

Salary: $41,728 per annum prorated for a 0.6 full time equivalent (FTE), with the possibility of increase to 0.8 FTE or full time, dependent upon grant funding
