Position Title: Public Policy Advisor

Reports to: Director, Policy

Reporting to the Director, Policy, the Public Policy Advisor will monitor and provide briefing materials and syntheses on emerging issues, priorities and opportunities for engagement with government stakeholders, supporting and respecting the mandate established in the CCSA Act. As part of the Policy division, the Public Policy Advisor will work closely with CCSA’s Knowledge Mobilization, Research, and Public Affairs and Communication divisions to leverage opportunities for strategic engagement and to ensure alignment between CCSA’s work and government stakeholder priorities. The Public Policy Advisor will also provide strategic support to CCSA’s Senior Leadership Team.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and evaluate opportunities to strengthen relations with federal and provincial/territorial governments in conjunction with CCSA’s Public Affairs and Communications and Knowledge Mobilization divisions
• Develop presentations, briefs, correspondence, speaking notes and related documents used to communicate with governments, elected officials and their staff
• Conduct monitoring and analysis to keep CCSA leadership apprised of emerging issues, priorities, legislation, current affairs and other relevant information
• Support strategic engagement with federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments and elected officials, including legislative committees and their staff
• Liaise with representatives of federal, provincial and territorial addictions agencies and non-government organizations to coordinate activities related to shared priorities

Education and Experience

• Completion of a bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy or a related discipline
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience working with or within government in a policy or communications related role (a combination of both will also be considered)
• Strong writing skills
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong interpersonal skills

• Experience working in the health system or on a health-related portfolio
