JOB SUMMARY: 

The Intake worker will liaison directly with client as a critical initial contact person and will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationship with men, women and youth at the Herb Jamieson Centre and Hope Mission's Main Building.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in the operation of the Department by:  

• Preparing for clients entering the building –Signing of timesheet, praying as a team, assist in bed-board and data base for accuracy, registration.    
• Assess needs of clients entering the building and monitor their conduct throughout their overnight stay
• Screen for referrals, barring of clients, age, gender and level of intoxication.
• Build rapport with clients through active listening, prayer; provide information on expected standards of conduct, shelter maintenance.
• Enter client related information into Shelter Reporting Program (SRP).
• Manage incidence and enter all incidents on occurrence report form.
• Monitor to ensure and maintain a secure and safe sleeping environment.
• Maintain radio communication to keep other staff and facilities informed.
• Rouse clients according to wake up request.
• Monitoring of meals queue.
• Debrief and sign out time sheet.
• Attend staff meetings and make reports as necessary. 
• Assist Hope Mission Ministry van as required.
• Assist with the Breakout Service Workers Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: 

• University or College, Bible school/Seminary education or work experience is an asset
• Ability to Communicate effectively with client, and conflict resolution skills
• Administrative and organizational abilities
• Ability to exercise authority without intimidation
• Self-management skills 
• First Aid training and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
• Able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
• A letter of reference from a ministry or church is required
• Adherence Hope Mission’s Policies and Procedures.
