The Edmonton Humane Society has been an animal welfare leader in the Edmonton community since 1907. We are more than a shelter and a safe haven for the thousands of animals in our care each year. We play a key role in the Edmonton region by enriching the lives of people and their companion animals not only through our sheltering, but through our programs, services, and community engagement.

 

The Role

 

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Administrator, General Finance and AP oversees the EHS financial activities and provides high level review overall as the workflows into the accounting system once the work has been coordinated and reconciled by the accounting team.

 

The candidate is responsible for the accounts payable for the EHS, reconciliations of various General Ledger accounts, journal entries and other duties as assigned.

 

Key Roles & Responsibilities

 

This position is responsible for a variety of functions as follows:

  • Process Accounts payable, including vendor creation, purchase order matching, receiving and payment processing.
  • Review and verify invoices
  • Update accounting system with trade payables activity
  • Reconciliation of commodity tax and payments, monthly, quarterly, and annually
  • Collect and file investment statements and correspondence
  • Support accounting team in year-end financial audit. Provide documentation to the auditors from trade activity.

 

Education & Experience

 

  • Diploma in Accounting or Business or equivalency
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel), accounting software, and other computer programs.
  • Experience in Sage 300 would be considered an asset

Compensation/Hours

 Compensation: EHS offers a competitive not-for-profit compensation package which includes a comprehensive benefits package, and a strong work-life balance.

 Hours:40 hours a week; however, is expected to work hours as required to fulfill department responsibilities. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
