Prevention and Education: Capacity Building Facilitator

HIV Edmonton is an inclusive and dynamic community-based organization devoted to working with the whole community ensuring; that community is aware of HIV and AIDS, there are no new HIV infections, people living with HIV and AIDS live longer, healthier lives free of stigma, and everyone affected by HIV receives the services and support they need without barriers or discrimination.

Main Responsibilities of the Prevention and Education team is to facilitate prevention and awareness activities and workshops that provide support and information to diverse communities. This involves working closely alongside three communities disproportionality affected by HIV; Indigenous, gbMSM (gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men), and ACB (African, Caribbean and Black) to increase community capacity to address issues associated with HIV and AIDS.  This includes but is not limited to;

• Partnering with agencies serving affected communities to provide outreach prevention services
• Use of a variety of social media outlets and smart phone applications
• Hosting and/or attending events, and taking part in ceremony

Additional responsibilities Include workshop facilitation for other audiences (e.g. youth, women, health care professionals, agencies & general public), assistance with management of educational resources and participation in ongoing program development & reporting.  This position reports to the Director of Programs and Services and is one of 7 staff team members addressing the diverse support, outreach and educational needs of HIV and AIDS in the Edmonton area.

The annual salary range for this position is $46,000 - $48,000, with a comprehensive benefits plan.  People living with HIV and AIDS and/or have extensive experience working with gbMSM communities are encouraged to apply.

 Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in the field of education, social work, or counseling and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position.  
• Experience providing community education workshops and group facilitation.
• Ability to build relationships, strong verbal and written skills, focus on best and strength-based practices, a desire to connect with community to engage people about HIV and AIDS and a strong ability to generate positive opportunities are all essential to making this position fun and engaging.
• Excellent support and counseling skills.
• Competency in computer software/databases including CANFIT, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint, is preferred.
• Access to a vehicle is required.
