This role is responsible for creating open, collaborative relationships across Kids Help Phone to drive a culture that will support and shape an enriching employee experience and continually grow the know-how and change readiness of our employee base.

The Position  

Reporting to the SVP – HR and CHRO, the Director Employee Well-being & Culture will design, develop, implement and evaluate an organizational framework, policies, and programs for the well-being of all KHP team members. The Director, Well-being and Culture will advise on best practices in the area and lead the wellness initiatives aimed at promoting healthy and safe lifestyles by fostering a healthy workplace culture at the individual and organizational level that is inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible. They will further asses team member needs to develop appropriate Wellness strategies based on feedback from leadership, team members, benefits partners and other stakeholders.


What You'll do  

  • Act as a change agent to ensure knowledge and know how is transferred to leaders / managers and actions are taken to ensure health and well-being and wellness strategies and other employee focused initiatives, and encourages engagement and collaboration are embedded into KHP’s workplace culture, operations, and strategic goals.
  • Operationalize and implement the employee engagement and well-being strategies in alignment with the strategic directions and performance goals of the HR department
  • Integrate the principles and practices related to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) into the DNA of the organization through training, well-being and engagement initiatives
  • Design and execute a learning strategy for the organization that is sustainable, scalable, measurable, and cost effective.
  • Integrate our career pathing and competency frameworks into all major HR programs and Employee Communications as appropriate to bring them to life and reinforce their criticality.
  • Provide support in identifying and creating effective development plans related but not limited to leadership, high potential individuals, team and individual plans, succession planning program, etc.
  • Advises managers on supporting team member well-being needs and provides group facilitation and training to address well-being issues of concern for our people (e.g., mental health, stress/burnout, work-life balance, etc.).
  • Collaborates with the leadership team to promote initiatives related to wellness, flexible work arrangements, psychological health, safety and inclusiveness
  • Design, deliver and evaluate development programs and activities to drive employee engagement to ensure an inclusive work environment.
  • Support the launch of new initiatives where new skills or reskilling are required and where more than traditional training is required to bring about the desired behavior change to create a learning organization.
  • Tracks, measures, and reports on the effectiveness of Wellness programs and initiatives.
  • Lead the pursuit of operational excellence by deploying learning best practices, keeping the organization moving forward with the most current and appropriate methodologies
  • Keeps the Leadership Team promptly and fully informed of all developments or unusual matters of significance and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action, which may be taken.


What You'll Need   

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s or advanced degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Instructional Design, or Training and Development preferred
  • Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in Learning and Development, Instructional Design and/or facilitation of adult learning
  • In depth knowledge of innovative learning technologies including social, mobile, micro learning and gamification
  • Minimum of 5-7 years management experience.
  • HR Designation or CTDP certification or related certification
  • Experience in a 7/24 community or healthcare environment (asset)
  • Possess an acceptable "Vulnerable Person Sector Criminal Reference Check" prior to starting employment.

  • Empathetic and aware of interpersonal dynamics
  • Computer literacy with MS Office Software (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with staff, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
