The Saanich Peninsula is home to about 2000 vibrant businesses supporting a population of 40,000 people within three municipalities. Entrepreneurship thrives in this community, which is the air, land, and sea gateway to Greater Victoria and the South Island. The Peninsula is home to a wide array of businesses in areas such as tourism and travel, marine services, technology, manufacturing, agri-business, professional and personal services, sports and recreation, and transportation. Reporting to the Board of Directors through the President, the Executive Director is responsible for managing operations of the Chamber, increasing member engagement and growth, and liaising with our three local municipalities and W̱SÁNEĆ people of Central Saanich, North Saanich, and Sidney.
The Executive Director is the heart and soul of the Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and passionately engages the diverse business community members throughout the peninsula. A strong understanding of community building and stakeholder growth underpins the Executive Director’s execution of strategic initiatives as set by the Board of Directors and serves as a framework for the ongoing advocacy and member support.
With a history of proven innovation and creative thinking, the Executive Director is able to meet all financial goals of the Chamber as well as develop and solidify key relationships with stakeholders in government, sector and community relations. Their understanding of business and economic development on the peninsula contributes to productive outcomes of community and municipal committees in which the Chamber plays a role.
The Executive Director is a warm and engaging person with a long track record of excellence in leadership and can demonstrate a commitment to Equity, Diversion and Inclusion.
Experience, Competencies & Attributes
Minimum 3-5 years business experience, or equivalent not-for-profit experience
Track record of achieving financial goals and meeting budget objectives
An ability to inspire and empower volunteers
An ability to think strategically with the Board and collaborate, then implement a long term vision for the Chamber
An ability to educate business owners on the benefits of Chamber membership
Comfortable speaking publicly and conversing meaningfully with diverse individuals and groups
An ability to balance and triage individual member support requests and ongoing growth initiatives
Comfortable competency with standard office systems and social media
