POSITION SUMMARY:
This position functions as part of a diverse team within a Homeless Shelter/ Addictions & Recovery setting. Clients present with various physical, mental and social health concerns – as well as challenges with addictions. The mental health nurse collaborates with staff and provides leadership in offering safe, evidence-based mental health and addictions care within the organization. The nurse case manager utilizes clinical expertise, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making skills, and a health promotion approach to provide holistic care to individuals and families. As an RPN/RN, you will use your nursing skills to advocate for clients and complete health teaching and promotion. You will work to continually increase your knowledge of and relationship with community resources to be able to guide clients to the appropriate facilities to meet their whole health needs and goals. Within the parameters of your license and scope of practice, you will safely provide hands-on care to clients as able. As a nurse leader, you will use your understanding of evidence-based practices to advice shelter leadership and staff on methods to promote the health and safety of workers and clients. The successful applicant will work to intentionally connect with and build relationships and rapport with clients so as to assist them in identifying and achieving their mental, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual health goals. The nurse will be mobile in their care, able to safely provide services within their scope of practice at Hope Mission’s various shelters, recovery sites, and crisis diversion vans as needed.
Completion of an accredited RPN or RN program. Active registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA), or active registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) with mental health and addictions experience. Active First Aid certification (preferably BCLS-HCP).
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a community or mental health setting preferred
