Position Description

Identifies, supports, and coordinates job supports and placement opportunities as part of the YWCA Hamilton Reskilling Program, which offers training and job development opportunities for women, trans and non-binary participants. A unique part of this program is assisting women who have achieved certification in their chosen fields with job readiness and placement opportunities. The position will require a candidate who can identify and foster relationships with employers in the specialized technology and advanced manufacturing fields. Additionally, the candidate will work with various stakeholders and corporate leaders to identify opportunities, develop supports, and track participant’s successes.            

  • Supports job seekers through resume building, interview preparation, training, and coaching, to develop the job seekers/clients’ skill set and knowledge;
  • Provides solutions-based 1-1 counselling in the areas of job search, job placement, career decision making, job maintenance, or other identified employment needs;
  • Conducts intakes, including needs and risk assessments and creates employment action plans;
  • Researches and plans for targeted, individualized job placements that meet the needs of each individual;
  • Develops action plans collaboratively with clients and support implementation;
  • Assists employers and clients with job maintenance and retention;
  • Identifies and assesses client’s need for job coaching; assists clients in the development of appropriate work habits and attitudes for the workplace;
  • Actively recruits employers and seeks out job placement opportunities, including identifying and contacting new prospective employers in specialized technology and advanced manufacturing fields;
  • Identifies and conducts outreach activities, via community outreach to employers, organizations and social networks to promote the program;
  • Nurtures and maintains relationships with partners, employers and volunteers;
  • Develops and monitors training plan and agreements with client and employer;
  • Conducts on-going research of and outreach to employers, community resources and programs;
  • Attends industry related networking events and representing the YWCA on community committees;
  • Understands and incorporates emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards;
  • Tracks job seeker/clients’ progress and outcomes and documents all activities and provides accurate and timely reports to Project Lead;
  • Reviews and evaluates results and recommendations from job seekers/clients and employers; shares program outcomes with Project Lead and stakeholders;
  • Maintains accurate records/statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken/outcomes achieved;
  • Develops and implements appropriate program guidelines and procedures/templates for program to ensure consistency and excellence;
  • Provides program reports to Project Lead as required;
  • Works extensively with pieces of client’s confidential data, ensuring confidentiality per privacy policies and YWCA Hamilton policies and procedures;
  • Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
  • Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works a standard 37.5 hours work week;
  • Some limited travel (less than 25%)

Qualifications

  • Must have an undergraduate degree, preferable in Business Administration, Social Sciences, Education or in a related field or a combination of related work and academic experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in counselling, job coaching or human resources;
  • Career Development Practitioner (CDP) or Job Development Professional (JDP) is an asset;
  • Must provide a current Criminal Record Judicial Matters Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Must have current Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Must be able to work from a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle and must be able to travel as required;
  • Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
