Lead Cancer Analyst,
The Partnership’s Cancer Systems, Performance and Innovation Division drives improvements in Canada’s cancer system through data, research, economic modelling and innovations such as digital healthcare. This division monitors emerging health technologies and leverages data systems to determine gaps and opportunities for improvements in cancer care and informs internal partners on innovative approaches, international best practice and compelling evidence to support key partnership decision making. The division enhances regional integration, with leads located across the country with the mandate of increasing responsiveness to local cancer care needs and opportunities. This division also leads data collection, analysis and reporting to Canadians on the performance of the cancer system and progress of the Partnership and its partners in delivering on the eight priorities of the 2019-2029 Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control.
Overview of Role
The Lead Cancer Analyst supports the Cancer Systems, Performance & Innovation Division in carrying out projects and initiatives to achieve organizational priorities. Reporting to the Manager, Analytics & Data Integration, Biostatistician, the incumbent coordinates and provides support to deliver on program/project objectives. As a highly organized professional with strong time management skills, this position delivers on the tasks of the job while contributing to CPAC’s overall vision to reduce the burden of cancer on all Canadians.
Program Specific Responsibilities
· Leads analytic projects and works effectively with internal program areas to provide analytical expertise in planning, conducting, analyzing and interpreting results
· Leads analyses to support program areas, including determining the content and scope of reports, assisting in the development of indicator definitions, producing results including tables and figures for the reports; interpreting the meaningfulness of the analysis and collaborating on knowledge mobilization activities
· Provides advice on measurement needs of the program areas and raises relevant questions to stimulate thinking on the appropriate approaches to measurement and rationale for measurement
· Act as a resource to other data analysts/external partners and provide technical guidance and direction on methodology as needed
· Provide support throughout the organization in the use of data to evaluate and report on the Canadian cancer control system
· Ensures all deliverables for assigned projects are completed with high quality and on time, including performing data cleaning and analysis, producing and finalizing figures, data tables, technical appendix and conducting quality checks on other team member’s work
· Conducts quantitative analyses (including equity-focused analyses) using micro-data from survey (e.g., Canadian Community Health Survey, census), population data (e.g. census data), cancer registry data and administrative databases (e.g. DAD) or other data sources (e.g. large linked population health data available at the Toronto Research Data Centre (RDC))
· Works with data custodians (e.g. Statistics Canada, CIHI, provincial/territorial cancer agencies, First Nations, Inuit & Métis partners) to procure data and ensure high data quality
· Collects, reviews and audits aggregate data, prepares data sets and works with data providers to resolve data quality issues
· Prepares reports or manuscripts of results, including interpretation of the findings
· Uses external sources to compile statistics and background on identified topics
· Establishes, develops, and maintains relationships with both internal and external partners
· Keeps abreast of current trends and best practice in healthcare and cancer control
· Assists the Director, and division teams as required
· Performs other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned

Experience and Qualifications
· Masters Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or other relevant discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
· Minimum 5 years’ experience, preferably in the non-profit or healthcare sector
· Proven experience working with Canadian health data, conducting analyses and providing interpretation of results; experience with cancer data preferred
· Competency in statistical software (SAS preferred)
· Experience with advanced analytical techniques (e.g. multiple linear and logistic regression, modelling)
· Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive)
· Education or experience with First Nations, Inuit and Métis is an asset
· Bilingual in both English and French is an asset
