Indigenous Cultural Helper

e4c is hiring an Indigenous Cultural Helper on a one-year term to educate, support and facilitate organic learning moments to residents and staff in alignment with Indigenous protocols and relationships.

Hours: 40 hours per week during regular weekday business hours.

In Your Role You Will

  • Build relationships and create opportunities for residents to explore cultural and spiritual practices.
  • Explore and provide opportunities for residents to participate in events, activities and cultural ceremony in alignment with Indigenous protocols and relationships.
  • Educate staff and residents on Indigenous culture through natural opportunities and relationships to promote spiritual safety.
  • Develop and maintain community and neighborly relationships to increase access and knowledge to ceremony and spiritual practices.
  • Provide consultations and regular input to staff regarding case-management decision-making, policy changes, program development, and operations.
  • Engage in daily household tasks with residents through role modelling, forming relationships and working with harm reduction, trauma-informed, person-centered and recovery orientated practices.
  • Communicate and document pertinent information to staffing and integrated care teams.
  • Transport residents to and from events in the community.
  • Complete administrative tasks including: observation reports, critical incidents, finance documentation and tracking forms.

Education and Certifications


  • Degree in the area of Human Services, Psychology, Education or a related discipline. Employment and lived experienced equivalencies will be considered.
  • Recognition by an Indigenous community as someone who follows and lives traditional protocol with the intent of being a cultural helper.
  • Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Intervention Record Check.
  • Certifications (or willingness to obtain): Medication Assistance, Food Safety, Standard First Aid and CPR, De-escalation, Suicide Intervention.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, Proof of Vehicle Insurance ($2 million dollar liability), Registration and 3 year Drivers Abstract.


  • 7+ years’ experience using Indigenous cultural approaches with people who have experienced trauma.
  • 5+ years’ experience working in a cultural helper role.
  • Depth of knowledge and practical expertise regarding local Indigenous cultural practices with the capacity to support and facilitate a range of spiritual and cultural experiences both within and external to an Indigenous worldview.
  • Depth of knowledge regarding the issues that contribute to poverty, homelessness, addictions, and mental health needs.
  • Experience and ability with harm reduction, person-centered, trauma-informed, strengths-based, recovery-oriented, and collaborative practice.
