POSITION SUMMARY

Are you passionate about protecting the Ottawa River and experienced in executing successful fundraising events? At Ottawa Riverkeeper, we are looking for a talented and organized individual to help plan our 2021 fundraisers, including peer-to-peer and third party events. Our events are a key part of our operations, serving to raise essential funds for the river, and bringing together the community in enjoyment and stewardship of our local waterways.

As Intern - Fundraising Events, you will be part of the fundraising team and report to our Director of Philanthropy. You will organize and implement a range of fundraising events for Ottawa Riverkeeper, including the annual Riverkeeper Gala. In this position, you will develop your fundraising, planning and organizational skills, and work with an enthusiastic and committed team, all while doing your part to keep the Ottawa River swimmable, drinkable, and fishable.

Events in 2021 may differ from their original format due to Covid-19 health and safety considerations and could shift to virtual or other formats if needed. As such, please note that the specific requirements of this position may evolve over the course of your employment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take an active role in all aspects of coordinating and implementing fundraising events, specifically the Riverkeeper Gala;
  • Communicate with and help coordinate sponsors, donors, suppliers, fundraisers, attendees, event volunteers;
  • Willing to fearlessly pick up the phone to expedite discussions when necessary;
  • Inspire supporters to fundraise for the river with emotive storytelling and impact driven language
  • Stay informed of the latest public health recommendations and assist in developing and implementing adaptation strategies as needed for all events;
  • Work with site maps, invoices, signage and other event and outreach materials;
  • Perform other general duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary student/degree in a relevant field;
  • Knowledge of and experience with fundraising events and sponsorship
  • At least one year of fundraising experience with knowledge of donor-centric communications and principles of donor stewardship
  • Highly organized, able to meet deadlines, detail-oriented;
  • Able to manage time and projects independently;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; self-starting and good at problem solving;
  • Proficient in use of G Suite (specifically Sheets);
  • Experience with peer-to-peer fundraising software and donor databases (like Salesforce) an asset;
  • Strong communication skills, bilingual would be an asset;
  • Valid driver’s license strongly preferred and access to a car would be an asset;
  • Able to work both independently and within a team;
  • Mix of time spent in the office (currently a remote work environment) and out in the community;
    Up to 4 weekends, up to 5 evenings, and work outdoors, as required.
