POSITION SUMMARY

Ottawa Riverkeeper is seeking a creative, personable, and self-starting Youth Programming Intern to join our dynamic team and work directly on Youth and Education Programs. Reporting to the Director, River School and Youth Leadership, the Youth Programming Intern will be responsible for the planning, coordinating, and executing of the Youth Water Leaders Program, which develops cohorts of youth aged 17-25 into young leaders in water stewardship.

In particular, the Youth Programming Intern will lead a cohort of youth through water stewardship activities that will build their knowledge, skills, and networks. Our new colleague will be an excellent communicator - able to engage and mobilize youth in the program to raise awareness and take action on important issues within the Ottawa River watershed. Through online engagement of the Youth Water Leaders Program, they will spark curiosity and discovery within the community about how people can protect our waterways.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Recruit and retain youth in the Youth Water Leaders Program
• Plan, coordinate, and execute program events and activities
• Create engaging online presentation and workshops for Youth Water Leaders
• Build and maintain relationships with key partners including community groups/organizations, schools, and Indigenous peoples and communities
• Work with colleagues in our Communications team to produce engaging content for our newsletter, website, and social media platforms

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Enrolled in or completed a post-secondary degree or have equivalent work experience, in a related field such as Education, Environmental Science, Child and Youth Studies
• Proven experience working with youth in a leadership capacity. In particular, within the age range of 17-25 would be an asset
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, follow timelines, and meet deadlines. A proven track-record of effective project management is an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate to young people and maintain connections with key community partners
• Very strong communication skills (oral and written), including the ability to deliver presentations and workshops
• Knowledge of Google Suites, and ability to use web conferencing services such as Zoom
• Creativity, imagination, and the ability to take initiative and bring fresh ideas to the Youth and Education Programs team
• Bilingualism (French and English) will be considered an asset
