QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree or PhD in Social Work, Psychology, Pastoral Counselling or in a related field
- Three years formal counselling experience
- Experience with families is required
- Ability to work in a team environment and flexibility in taking on new roles
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
- Computer literacy
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Police Security Clearance and Child and Youth Information Systems Check (must be no more than 6 months old at start of employment and renewed every 3 years)
- Indigenous Awareness (8 hours within the first twelve months of employment and every year thereafter)
- Certification and registration in good standing with applicable professional associations
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide counselling to children and caregivers to heal from the effects of toxic stress and complex trauma
- Build relationships of trust with clients and other professionals
- Use sound evidence-based interventions, in particular, short term therapy techniques, to provide service to clients for a wide range of issues
- Promote awareness of healthy brain development and effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE)
- Assist the client in connecting with community resources (assessment and referral)
- When the client is unable, advocates on behalf of the client and teaches client how to advocate on his/her own behalf
- Completes administrative responsibilities on time
- Attends staff meetings, in-service training and supervision meetings as required
- Maintains a clinical record for each client, couple or family as per the presenting issues
- Stays current about regulatory or legislative developments
- Maintains on-going professional development
- Maintains professional registration in good standing
