Job Responsibilities    

  • Provide individual, couple, family & group counselling, with a focus on the LGBTQ community
  • Build the profile of Family Services of Peel in the LGBTQ community by liaising with existing agencies & developing community networks. This position may necessitate working at other locations within Peel.
  • Participate in team meetings & provide input & ideas for improving services.
  • Contribute to team assignments & projects
  • Maintain confidentiality for all matters related to Agency work in accordance with relevant Agency policies & procedures
  • Participate in orientation & training of placement students
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned, for team or Agency

Key Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field, combined with minimum 3-years of paid work experience in providing counselling to & working with individuals, couple & families, including within the LGBTQ community
  • Demonstrated knowledge & understanding of the culture & history of lesbians & gay men, bisexual, transsexual, transgendered, two-spirited, intersex, queer & questioning individuals & the issues affecting them & their communities
  • Demonstrated involvement with, & established credibility in, the LGBTQ communities
  • Demonstrated competence &/or additional training/graduate work in LGBTQ issues, cognitive/behavioural approaches, brief therapy, couple & family counselling, addictions counselling & group facilitation
  • Ability to work with diverse organizations & clients including cultural sensitivity
  • Experience in community outreach
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) & ability to develop & maintain positive relationships
  • Current & ongoing membership in good standing within a recognized accrediting body
  • A valid Ontario driver’s licence & regular access to a vehicle is required
  • Must provide criminal record check
  • Ability to work from home, consisting of a safe & private home office setting & the necessary technical equipment & high-speed Internet access for remote work
  • Familiarity with virtual work platforms
  • Superior written & oral command of the English language
  • Strong communication skills, including presentations
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, & data bases
  • Demonstrated efforts to continuously update skills
  • Ability to work day, evening & week-end hours
  • Flexibility to work at a variety of locations throughout Peel region
  • Additional language(s) an asset
