Commencing June 2021 and reporting to the Superintendent of Business, the Manager of Capital Projects will be responsible for managing the planning, implementation and completion of major capital projects. This work involves technical, contractual, planning and financial activities required for capital project delivery. The work also involves applying project management and technical knowledge to new school construction, additions and major renovation projects. The Capital Project Manager negotiates and manages fees and constructions costs, directs activities of architects, consultants, contractors and liaises with school administrators and various community partners on behalf of the School Board. This position exercises considerable independence of judgement and action to maintain the project budget and schedule for several projects simultaneously.


Qualifications & Experience:


  • An Engineering/Architectural degree with a professional designation for the Province of Ontario or Construction Management.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible management experience providing leadership and technical expertise to architectural, engineering and construction field staff for a large, multi-site, employer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven successful expertise in strategic planning, budgeting and project management.
  • Proven record of effective leadership and ability to communicate, lead and produce results.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction methods and materials, current applicable technologies and full understanding of the engineering principals of building infrastructure management.
  • Knowledge of related legislation, regulations and codes, provincial and municipal building and fire codes, Board policies and procedures.
  • Excellent time management, organization, communication and analytical skills with strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage diverse stakeholder needs and interests and build effective relationships (e.g. staff, students, parents, trustees, community).
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with senior staff, managers and supervisors.
  • Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity.
  • Ability to facilitate and negotiate resolutions to issues.
  • Computer skills, including email, Microsoft word, spreadsheets, databases, project management and presentation packages.
