POSITION OVERVIEW:

A key fund development role within the organization, the Development Officer contributes significantly to the growth and sustainability of BBGV’s programming for children and youth. This role is responsible for managing the writing and submission of grant applications and reports, leading the organization’s annual fundraising and donor recognition, and carrying out the administration of the donor database.

The Development Officer oversees one direct report and works collaboratively across departments on grant activities while stewarding relationships with new and existing donors, and provides support to the Executive Director on recognizing major gift donors. This role has significant responsibility for managing complex projects and is accountable for achieving specific funding goals laid out in the strategic plan.  This is a 12-month parental leave contract position with a possible extension. Temporarily remote due to COVID-19.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Grant Portfolio Management:

  • Writes and leads the development of proposals and reports, manages the submission and agreement processes
  • Works collaboratively across departments to compile the necessary information for applications and reports
  • Manages the grant proposal and reporting calendars, and tracks activities in fundraising database and hard-copy filing system
  • Researches funding prospects and keeps an eye on grant and funding trends
  • Oversees the tasks and responsibilities of the Development Coordinator.
  • Works closely with the Development Coordinator  and the marketing staff to ensure recognition requirements of grants are fulfilled on time

Donor Relations Management:

  • Acts as the project lead on all annual giving appeals, including the Holiday Campaign
  • Maintains detailed records of all donor (including major donors) contact, history and moves management; ensures timely and personal appreciation and recognition is completed
  • Manages the monthly giving program, working closely with the marketing department
  • Works with the marketing department to develop and enhance promotion and recognition tools aimed at individual donors (website, print pieces, email content, story/pic/video library, frames)
  • Manages the donor recognition and stewardship program, including updating organization policies and procedures
  • Supports the Executive Director with recognition and stewardship for major gift donors

Donor Database Administration:

  • Acts as the organization’s Salesforce system administrator
  • Performs regular database maintenance, including system backups and duplicate management
  • Tracks and reports on data for fundraising and grants; assists in the creation of event revenue reports
  • Other duties as assigned

 

YOU WILL LIKELY BRING

 

SKILLS:

  • Solid understanding of basic fundraising principles
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, and ability to confidently interact with individuals at all levels
  • Efficient while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Organised, systematic and able to prioritise, schedule and perform complex tasks on time and with minimal supervision
  • Able to maintain confidentiality; demonstrate sound judgement and discretion
  • Ability to liaise with other departments to achieve a common goal
  • Strong database management skills Salesforce, Canada Helps, Classy experience
  • Strong Social Media management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE: 

  • Post-secondary education in a related field
  • Minimum three years of fundraising experience in a not-for-profit setting
  • Experience with individual giving, planned giving and/or monthly giving programs
  • Proven success with donor prospecting, relations, stewardship and recognition
  • Experience managing a donor pipeline; familiarity with fundraising software and database(s)
  • Experience managing complex projects with specific targets
