About:

The Kettle Society supports people with mental illness to lead healthier lives by providing support services, advocacy, employment and mentoring and housing. We work to raise awareness of mental health issues, break down stigma and reduce barriers for people with mental illness. Our goal is to promote inclusion of people living with mental illness in all aspects of society.

Kettle on Burrard has 141 units, located on Burrard Street across from St. Paul’s Hospital. This is a 16-story affordable housing project that includes community and commercial space. Easily accessible by transit.

Job Summary:

In accordance with The Kettle Society values, The Mental Health Worker is responsible for providing direction and support to apartment residents with daily social, emotional, and life skills assistance in line with established care plan procedures.

Status: Permanent, Full Time

Hours and Days: Tuesday to Saturday: 12pm to 8pm. Days off: Sunday & Monday

Salary & Compensation: $25.40 per hour

Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Community Social Services – Mental Health (or related)
  • One-year experience in a mental health setting including community work experience and volunteer work (or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience)
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate (or equivalent)
  • Valid Food Safe Level 1 certificate
  • Valid WHMIS 2015 Certificate

Abilities & Skills:

  • Ability to work with people with mental illness, hoarders, homeless at risk and addictions
  • Ability to work with bed bug protocol and assist tenants in management of pests
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with tenants
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in tenant
  • Have an understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation and concurrent disorders including theories and methods
  • Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to prep and cook meals followed by clean up
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position

  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
  • Ability to organize and prioritize
