e4c is hiring a Chef Instructor who will support The Hallway Café initiatives for at-risk youth while delivering an exceptional customer experience thru the café and catering experience.

Your primary responsibility is to provide site-management for The Hallway Cafe Program, with a significant focus on catering and operations. Working collaboratively with both the Catering and Café Coordinators, the Chef Instructor is responsible for meeting café and catering outcomes and delivering an exceptional customer experience that encompasses a social focus.
In addition to responsibilities related to the culinary activities, the Chef Instructor is an integral part of a Multi-disciplinary Team designed to provide wrap around support to high-risk youth.

In Your Role You Will

  • Provide vision, direction and leadership for The Hallway Cafe Program and catering as a social enterprise
  • Develop service standards program curriculum for up to 50 youth annually as part of the Employee Readiness Program that is aligned to the goals and objectives of the social enterprise
  • Supervise and train all Back of the House youth participants in the Employment Readiness Program
  • Provide training for Youth Participants in Baking, Line Cooking and Prep Cooking modules of the program
  • Monitor and communicate training needs for The Hallway Café Program
  • Conduct and complete evaluations and the development of goal plans for youth participants
  • Under the direction of the Director of Culinary, plans and creates menu items that aligns with current and approved market trends that are fresh and local and in keeping with Edmonton’s’ food and urban agriculture strategy
  • Build rapport with the youth, demonstrate compassion and empathy for at-risk youth
  • Assist in problem solving, case management challenges, and removing barriers for the youth within the Multi-disciplinary Team
  • Provide innovative solutions for managing a small enterprise with limited resources
  • Delivers an exemplarily customer experience ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty
  • Estimates food consumption and requisition or purchase food
  • Oversees catering and delivery production
  • Ensure e4c and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety standards are followed
  • Comply with agency policy & procedures, health standards, & program operational policies

Education and Certifications

Required

  • Journeyman Cook / Baker Certified
  • Proserve Certification (or the ability to obtain this certification prior to the start date)
  • Food Handling Certification
  • WHIMIS
  • First Aid (CPR-AED)
  • Police Check with Vulnerable Sector
  • Intervention Record Check

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ as an Sous Chef or higher with catering experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ baking experience
  • Previous leadership position in culinary field required
  • Proven track record of cost control including food, equipment, labor and wastage to meet financial goals
  • Highly responsible and reliable
  • Innovative, creative and self-driven
  • Previous education & training experience is an asset
  • Previous experience with fast casual dining is an asset
