Seeking compassionate RPN  with a passion and commitment  for providing the highest quality palliative and end-of-life care. 

Hospice Care Ottawa is a community-based charitable organization providing high quality end-of-life care for terminally ill people living in Ottawa. Services aim to provide residents and their loved ones with an experience in palliative and end-of-life care which is supportive and peaceful, surrounded by caring that reflects as closely as possible to a comfortable home environment. The HCO programs include day hospice, home support, family services and residential hospice services. Hospice Care Ottawa relies on and values the contribution of over 700 volunteers who contribute to every aspect of our programs.

This permanent position works out of the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice in Kanata, ON. 

The Position:  0.80 FTE permanent full-time working at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice - 110 McCurdy Drive in Kanata.

16 shifts over a 4 week rotation - 32 hours/week.  It includes  8 Day Shifts (0700-1500), 5 Night Shifts (2300-0700) and 3 Evening Shifts (1500-2300):

  • Week 1: Days             Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
  • Week 2: Nights           Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
  • Week 3: Night             Sunday
  • Week 3: Days             Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
  • Week 4: Evenings      Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
  • Week 4: Day               Saturday

All shifts are 8 hours paid.  This position is eligible for benefits and paid personal/sick time based on FTE. 

Key Responsibilities:

Plans, coordinates, delivers and supports a team to provide day to day end-of-life palliative care for the residents in the Hospice and their families and/or significant others.

Qualifications & Background:

  1. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  2. LEAP Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months
  3. A strong sense of dedication to the mission, vision and values of Hospice Care Ottawa
  4. Knowledge and experience in Hospice Palliative Care
  5. Excellent communication skills
  6. Leadership skills
  7. Understands Ethics as they relate to Hospice Palliative Care
  8. Ability to work as part of a team
  9. Ability to give and take direction
  10. Bilingualism is an asset
