Position Overview

 

Are you a natural team leader and a creative problem-solver? Do you enjoy giving back to the community and inspiring others to do good? Do you lean into the difficult moments and conversations knowing that will create long-term benefits for you and for the youth in your charge? Katimavik is looking for open-minded, resourceful individuals to lead youth development groups. This challenging and rewarding position provides leadership for up to 11 youth at a time, guiding them through an intense six-month experience of volunteerism, learning, discovery, growth, and accountability. The Project Leader resides in-house with the group.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the continuous development and program activities of a Project, including supervision of youth Participants and Community Partnerships.
  • Facilitate group learning through delivery of Katimavik's competency-based learning modules, tools, and resources, and through leading group discussions, activities, and reflection exercises.
  • Foster meaningful partnerships with local Indigenous communities and organizations to facilitate Truth and Reconciliation learning and activities.
  • Facilitate alumni relations, support recruitment initiatives, and implement program initiatives into the Project.
  • Support the National Experience program in the reporting and execution of advancement strategies for organizational growth.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

 

  • Previous leadership experience working directly with youth and/or groups.
  • Experience in crisis management and the personal judgement to identify and refer youth with high-risk behaviours to the appropriate support.
  • A strong understanding of issues of equity and the ability to support youth from historically under-serviced communities, including Indigenous, newcomer, and LGBTQ2S+ communities.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English, and the ability to communicate in both official languages.
  • Ability to manage house and house inventory, financial resources, and various administrative duties.
  • Driver's license is required.
  • An open-minded and respectful character that embraces diversity and adapts to competing needs and interests.
  • A positive and fun attitude.

 

Katimavik Project Leaders will set their own work schedule based on the Project needs. The salary is $32,320 per year and Katimavik will cover living expenses (rent, utilities, food, travel to/from training and to/from the Project location at the beginning and end of the placement).
