Human Resources Intern
Full-Time 16-week Canada Summer Jobs Position
Who we are: Job Skills offers employment solutions connecting the skills of job seekers with the needs of employers to create a more vibrant community.
What we need: The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* for the duration of the employment and,
Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
*Foreign Students are not eligible
Applicants should also have the following qualifications/skills:
Have excellent communication skills (written, verbal)
Have excellent customer services skills with both internal and external customers
Have superior organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task, in a fast-paced environment
Proficient in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
Preferred candidates will be enrolled in either a college and/or university level program, majoring in one of the following disciplines:
Human Resources or related field
What you will do: Support Job Skills’ Human Resources department by:
Assisting in pre-screening candidates by evaluating applicant information, ensuring that the applicant pool is diverse and that candidates meet the minimum qualifications, described in the position description.
Assisting in the interview process and collaborating with the internal interview team to co-ordinate full interview cycle, pre-screening and coordinating interviews, preparing interview packages, preparing candidate follow-up e-mails, setting up second interviews etc.
Learning about and assisting with the reference checking process.
Assisting with job offers and the orientation process.
Becoming familiar with and assisting with the job posting process in accordance with company standards/legislative requirements.
Becoming familiar with JS’ timesheet management database and assisting in the monitoring of staff timesheets and preparation of related monthly reports, collaborating with management team relating to any timekeeping issues.
Maintaining both paper and electronic staff files (ensure that a copy of each paper document is scanned into the electronic HRIS file and that the paper document is filed in the staff member’s personnel file.
Becoming familiar with and preparing monthly HR reports.
Revising JS job descriptions, including related competencies.
Updating the JS Staff Manual.
Becoming familiar with all HR processes and update the HR Operating Procedural Manual.
Should COVID-19 restrictions remain in effect, the staff member will have the opportunity to expand their skills in remote work, including the use of technology in supporting JS’ HR functions.
